Seven brand new 1.1 MW capacity generating sets arrived few days ago in Tablas Island to replace the installed capacity of SUWECO Tablas Energy Corporation( STEC) in the next few days. Three more gensets are expected to arrive before weekend to complete the replacement of all the old gensets of STEC.
It could be recalled that the diesel gensets currently operated by STEC is already seven years old since its initial operation in 2015 and have been experiencing regular breakdown since its operation is continuous in 24/7 basis.
The power demand in Tablas had increased so much that the projected demand of 7.5 MW forecasted in 2027 has already been surpassed as early as 2019 where a momentary peak demand of 8.3 MW was registered.
In anticipation of the possible surge in demand during the summer months which is expected due to hot temperature, the celebration of town and barangay fiestas and the election activities, STEC and TIELCO management conducted a coordination meeting late morning today discussing the schedule for the genset replacement activity. As discussed by STEC, it would require at least 3 day 10 hour plant shutdown to complete the deployment and replacement of the new 10 units and removal of all the old gensets. With the start of the campaign period of the local candidates on the 25th of March, the suggested dates of replacement is planned to be undertaken this coming Saturday and Sunday March 19 and 20, 2022 from 5:00 am to 4 pm each day. However the planned schedule of installation is subject to the timely arrival of the remaining three gensets from Manila.
